Forbidden Promises Excerpt

“I won’t hurt you, Sloan. I promise.”
There was no logical reason for her to trust him, but he’d been careful with her up to this point. Perhaps he’d be careful with her with what came next. She nodded mutely, watching as he rolled on a condom that he’d retrieved from his pocket. Her body hummed in anticipation and trepidation, but she didn’t let it show as he moved back to join her on the bed.
Jude palmed her between her legs, his big fingers exploring her. It didn’t seem possible that he could spark pleasure with a few specific touches, but it didn’t take much to have her relaxing, letting him once again take the lead. He kissed her neck. “Feels good, huh?”
“Well, I—oh.” Her eyes went wide when he pushed a second finger into her. It stretched her, the feeling not entirely pleasant at first, but he merely waited, pulsing the slightest bit, until pleasure took hold once more. She clutched his shoulders. “Kiss me again. Please.”
“You don’t have to ask twice.” He took her mouth like he owned it—like he owned every part of her. Jude slid between her legs, his body rubbing deliciously against hers. His hard length slid through her wetness, creating a friction that sparked a tide of desire deep inside her. Again? I couldn’t possibly…
He nipped her bottom lip and then soothed the slight ache with his tongue. “Ready?”
There was no mistaking his meaning. She nodded. Despite the earlier orgasm and how good it felt to have him moving against her, she was so incredibly empty. Instinct had her hooking a leg around his hips and arching up to meet him, needing more, so much more.
Jude reached between them, and then he was at her entrance. He kissed her, tongue twining with hers as he pushed into her, just a single inch. It was too much and not enough and she couldn’t help but thrash, pinned in place by his big body, overwhelmed by her helplessness and what he was doing to her. “Jude, I—”
“Shh. I’ve got you.” He rolled, taking her with him. One second she was on her back, finding it hard to breathe, and the next she was straddling him where he sat with his back against the headboard.
Sloan looked down, daunted by the sheer size of him. “I don’t know if this is going to work. You’re too big.”
He laughed, deep and full-throated, the sound rolling through her like the tide. “You can take every inch of me, sunshine. I promise you that.”

Praise for The O’Malleys Series

"It can be hard to make a ruthless assassin into a sympathetic character, but Robert handles the task with ease. She also deftly shows Sloan’s transformation from a pampered and protected naïf to a strong woman with a backbone of pure steel. A tension-filled plot full of deceit, betrayal, and sizzling love scenes will make it impossible for readers to set the book down."—Publishers Weekly on FORBIDDEN PROMISES

“You will finish it in one sitting and die after you’re done because the next book isn't out yet. This was one sexy ride!”—Reviewer Top Pick, Night Owl Reviews on FORBIDDEN PROMISES

“Two story lines end up converging into one explosive finale at the end.  A great read from the talented Robert!” —RT Book Reviews

“Katee Robert's has created a fictional underworld of such veracity, that one almost expects the characters to turn up on the front-page news. It never feels over the top or implausible; the author writes extremely well-crafted stories… The romance between Cillian and Olivia is very beautiful, tender and real.”—Fresh Fiction on AN INDECENT PROPOSAL

“Will keep you turning pages.”—RT Book Reviews on THE WEDDING PACT

“If you like angsty reads, this book is right up your wheelhouse.”—Heroes & Heartbreakers on THE WEDDING PACT

Blood. Everywhere.
Macy Gibbs looked down at her shaking hands, stained red, still clutching the bloody knife. Her gaze dropped to the man lying on the floor at her feet. His eyes stared empty into space. Fluid oozed from the wound in his chest where his heart should beat.
Her ears began to ring, her vision dimming. They would execute her for this. In this country, she wouldn’t get a trial. Women had very few rights here. An American woman had none. Especially one married to an Azbak man.
Revulsion turned her stomach. Married. What she’d been in was anything but a marriage.
The sound of the door handle turning snapped her out of her stupor. One thought ran through her head as she dropped the knife. Run.
Panicked, she spun in a circle, searching the small bedroom for an escape she knew she wouldn’t find. She’d been locked inside this room for weeks. Had there been a way out she would have found it.
Her eyes trapped on the door. Only one way out. One choice.
To keep fighting.
Forcing her legs to move she slipped behind the door just as it opened. A tall figure moved stealthily into the darkened room, lit only by a dim lamp in the corner. On auto-pilot, Macy struck, aiming for his jugular.
He ducked her blow, his hand coming up to capture her wrist. With a forceful tug, he had her arm pinned behind her, her back pressed to the wall and a forearm against her throat. Not enough to hurt her, but it felt like an iron bar across her neck. Afraid to breathe, she looked up into a pair of stunningly beautiful green eyes. The way he stared back at her made her blood race. Direct, lethal.
Her vision narrowed. Warmth slid down her leg but she didn’t feel the pain of her injury. Memories of what her bastard husband had tried to do to her filled her head. If she hadn’t fought back…
“Hey, breathe.”
Her attacker’s voice, low and smooth, broke through her thoughts. Macy blinked. Why did he sound so far away when she could feel every hard inch of him?
The arm on her throat loosened. She drew in a breath that made her head spin. “American,” she whispered, fighting to remain upright. He wasn’t one of Aziz’s men. Where were the guards? Surely, they must have heard her tussle with their leader. Then again, they were fully aware of what went on in this room and had not once intervened.
A hand gripped her chin, warm despite the chill in her bones. Gave her a shake. Her eyes snapped open.
“Come on, we’re getting out of here.”

On Sale: A Seal's Song by @JLoweryauthor

Meet the Characters with Jennifer Lowery

Hi A Little Fiction of Every Flavour and all you fabulous readers out there *waves* Thank you so much for having me today! I’m super excited to be here! I have a couple giveaways and a free book to offer you so read on to find out how to take advantage of fun, free books!

Ever since I picked up my first Suzanne Brockmann Navy SEAL book I’ve been in love with these tough, incredibly intelligent men. I knew I had to write my own series with my own SEAL team. A SEAL’s Song is the first book in my SEAL Team Alpha series and what an incredible journey it was for both me and my characters! Today, I’m bringing you a special interview with the hero and heroine from A SEAL’s Song. I hope you enjoy meeting Jack and Darci as much as I enjoyed writing them.
P.S. A SEAL’s Song is FREE on Amazon May 23-25 so be sure to grab your free copy HERE!
Did you ever think that your life would end up being in a book?
Jack: Hell, no.
Darci: No, but it’s flattering.
What are your favorite scenes in your book: the action, the dialog or the romance?
Darci: *smiles* The romance. I already know what Jack is going to say.
Jack: *grins* Sorry, hun. The action. And the sex.
*Darci rolls her eyes*
What do you like to do when you are not being actively read somewhere?
Jack: Take my sailboat out deep-sea fishing.
Darci: I’m not much for fishing, that’s Jack’s thing. I’m usually in my studio writing and composing songs. But, when he gets home… *she smiles at Jack who grins back*
Do you like the way the book ended?
Jack and Darci in unison: Yes.
Would you be interested in a sequel, if your writer was so inclined?
Jack: Not if it means putting Darci in more danger.
Darci: Agreed. Although, with Jack at my side, I wouldn’t be as afraid of what Jennifer threw at us. *leans in and whispers* She likes to torment us.
What do you do for a living?
Darci: *laces her fingers through Jacks* Jack is a Navy SEAL and the bravest, strongest man I know. I’m a singer.
What is your most prized possession?
Darci: A Celtic necklace given to me by my grandmother. Had it not been for that necklace, I never would have met Jack.
What do you like most about where you live?
Jack: Darci approved of my house. That’s all that matters to me.
Darci: He lives in this cute gingerbread house on the ocean. I adore it.
What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy Sunday?
Jack: *grins* Stay in bed.
Darci: *nods* Definitely.
What is your least favorite word?
Darci: Classified.
What sound or noise do you love?
Jack: Sorry, that’s between me and my wife. *an intimate look passes between Jack and Darci*
What other profession would you like to try?
Darci: I’ve considered becoming a music teacher. Jack, he’s right where he was meant to be.
Jack: *nods*

Spotlight & Review: Six Sisters of Shame by @LizaOConnor

Six Sisters of Shame
By
Liza O’Connor

RESEARCH, RESEARCH, AND MORE RESEARCH!
With six talented young women, there was a great deal to research.
Alice is a mathematician and scientist.  Scientists once believed that ether was the substance that allows light to move through the universe, just as sound needs air or water to propagate.
Earth's motion through the ether, some physicists thought, would create a type of wind that bends light waves the same way that wind in the atmosphere bends sound waves.
But the theory of Ether was largely abandoned after an 1887 experiment by physicists Albert Michelson and Edward Morley. Dubbed "the most famous failed experiment," the test was meant to gather data on the effects of this so-called ether wind. But the experiment showed that light propagation was not affected, suggesting ether wind did not exist.
Alice mathematically proves that ether may exist, only it impacts gravity, rather than light.
And quite recently the latest theory by Starkman suggests that ether may do exactly that.

Charity is a pharmacist, nurse, and surgeon. She constantly tries out new drugs being created during the Victorian era, but she’s very careful, because much of what the doctors used in the late Victorian era was dangerous to a person’s health.
She’s also read everything Dr. Vichow has written on the classifications of cancer, so the head surgeon allows her to assist in a surgery to remove a large tumor. In doing so, she locates two very small cancerous masses, thus possibly saving the patient’s life.
Jora’s bird watching required me to research a rare bird: Branta ruficollis. It’s a lovely goose. It is only rarely found in England, so the fact that both Jora and her suitor know its name is most odd.

Salise learns the rules of Crap so she can gamble. Man, is that confusing!

Rose is a fabulous painter, so I had to investigate both good and horrible pieces of artwork, and let her ‘fix’ a Renoir to make it ‘true’. Why had Renoir disguised the truth in his painting?  Simple, the truth was too ugly for public consumption.
Arial is a very fine musician on several instruments. She is attempting to reach perfection.
Their mother shares information about air compression usage in the post office
And finally, I had to discover the two credible cretins who were the infamous Jack the Ripper. I wrote an entire separate blog on that matter.

Blurb
In his second marriage, a marriage of true love, Douglas Marsh has acquired six beautiful, identical daughters, who have made a pact never to marry. All are a challenge to the strict mores and interests that young ladies of Victorian England should have, but all are uniquely wonderful. He strives to match his new daughters to men who can appreciate each girl’s talents and interests. Only, one of his daughters wishes to choose for herself, and her choice sets off repercussions that could destroy them all.

Charity returned to the men. “If I may have your attention, please. I have two treatments for the crabs. One is the standard treatment and the other is a new experimental treatment.”
The blacksmith, with a broken leg, shook his head. “Don’t want no one experimentin’ on me.” The other men nodded in agreement.
The smithy noticed the disappointment on Charity’s face and tried to make matters right. “Will this experimentin’ hurt?”
“Actually, the new treatment shouldn’t burn at all, whereas the kerosene can be quite painful on the open crab bites.”
Now all eight men volunteered for the new treatment. In the end, she had them draw straws. The winners got the new treatment.
Francis (the doctor she loves) was amazed at her success in turning them around. The only way he could try new treatments was to remove the choice in the matter and just do it without discussion. He had long ago discovered people do not like to try new things.
When Charity placed the kerosene on the blacksmith, he howled and cursed in pain. He stopped when he noticed tears running down her cheeks. “I ain’t cursing at you, just the burn.”
She nodded. “I know. But you are very strong and only the worst pain would make you cry out. It hurts me to cause you pain. And if I were not certain that this will make you better soon, I could not continue.”
He huffed. “It ain’t so bad, really. I just like to curse. But seeing as how it’s upsetting you, I’ll try to put a cork in it.” With clenched jaws and closed eyes, he remained quiet through the remainder of his treatment. The next three men were just as stoic, even though their pain was obvious.
God, she was a miracle worker. The reason why he hadn’t bothered to treat the men prior to this was because he wanted his surgical patients more time to recover before listening to hours of howling.
“Now for the experimental lotion,” she said and moved to the fifth man.
His body tensed, ready to suffer his pain in silence. The moment her hand applied ointment, his mouth fell open in shock. “That feels good!”
When she finished, he looked at the patient to receive the treatment next. “Not only don’t it hurt, but the gnawing itch has stopped.” He smiled at Charity. “This is a much better cure.”
She gravely met his eyes. “We won’t know until tomorrow if it has cured you.” Motioning to the men at her left, she continued, “I am very certain the kerosene will cure these brave men by tomorrow, but I am not certain the lotion can kill the eggs. Your crabs could return in seven days.”
The man shrugged. “I got faith in you, miss. I’m bettin’ the treatment works.”
When she returned to Francis, he dipped his fingers into the cream and smelled it.
“Be careful, it would be poisonous if ingested,” she warned.
“I hope it works.”
“So do I.” She sighed and her shoulders trembled. “It was hard causing the first four men so much pain.” She took hold of Francis’ hand and carefully wiped the cream off and then washed his hand with the soapy water in her bowl.
Her actions were incredibly erotic and he struggled to remain focused on medical topics. “You make a very fine nurse.”
She smiled and continued her ministrations.
He had always thought marriage was an impossibility for him. But with a woman such as Charity would not have to stay home and be neglected. She could help him in his life’s work. “I suspect you will make an even finer doctor.”

Fabulously Unique

As a fan of Liza's Xavier and Vic series. Knowing this book was from the same universe I I had to read it. And boy am I glad I did.

Jora, Charity, Alice, Rose, Arial and Salese are six beautiful and talented sisters all needing a man to love them for the women that they are. But they have a secret.

From the very beginning you get the sense that something is not quite and you keep turning page after page to try and figure it out.

About half through I was certain I had figured out what was going on. By then I was so hooked on each sister finding her happy ever after I furiously kept turning pages wanting the story to never end.

There are a few bumps along the way but this wonderful unique story will keep you engrossed from start to finish.

5 out of 5 stars
