Spotlight: Keys to Her Heart by @LaceyWolfe

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Love happens when you least expect it.

Officer Cody Duncan gave up on love years ago. Or so he thought.  He was content with his quiet solitary life, until a clumsy waitress spilled hot coffee on his pants and turned his world upside down. Suddenly, there’s a new heat in his life, filled with cravings for things he once pushed aside.

Lily Jenkins’ busy life as a single mom and primary caretaker for her elderly mother leaves little time for herself. Struggling to adjust to a new life in a small town, her focus is too easily derailed by the gorgeous man she accidentally spilled hot coffee on. Knowing she has too much already going on, Lily vows to keep Cody at a distance, even though she craves him in ways she never thought possible.
Their attempts at simple friendship continually fail as they soon discover an untamable fire between them whenever they are alone together.

Seeing a life he never imagined for himself, will Cody have the patience to wait for the woman of his dreams? Will Lily finally let go and give Cody the Keys to Her Heart?

~Excerpt~

As they walked back up the main road in town, Cody couldn’t shake the feeling Lily was holding back on him. From the outside, she seemed to have her life together. She was strong and confident, but something told him there was a story she wasn’t sharing. He wouldn’t push. If, and when, she was ready, he’d listen. He didn’t plan on going anywhere.

God, was he already thinking about the long haul with her? He was in trouble, and he hadn’t even kissed her yet. He’d definitely thought about it, though.

“You’ve been such a gentleman showing me around.” She tugged at the hem of her dress. Her hot, sexy, want-to-rip-it-off-her dress.

“Who better than me?” he flirted.

“I can’t think of anyone.” She stared at him. Her long red curls begged him to touch them. Were they as soft as they looked?

“We should do this again.” His heart raced as he waited for her response.

“Yes.” She stepped back a little, increasing the space between them. “My evening schedule is kind of hectic. So daytime is best for me.”

“I understand. You have your son to care for.”

Her gaze darted away and she sucked in her bottom lip. “Yeah. Speaking of which, he’ll be home before long, and I should be there to get him off the bus.”

He hated that their time together was ending. “Okay. Let me walk you to your car.”

“You don’t have to.”

“I want to.”

She gave him the cute little grin he found himself adoring already. Of course, she’d parked near Luigi’s, which had them to her car too quickly.

Lily leaned against the side and he could practically see the wheels turning in her head. Was she debating the kiss as much as he was? Oh yeah, he wanted to explore those sweet lips of hers, but not yet. Not until he could spend a good few minutes with her.

Review:

Firstly this entire series is amazing not one of the five books is less than a 5 star. 5 fabulous Authors and five amazing books. Well Done Diane Alberts, Tessa Bailey, Katee Robert, Samanthe Beck and Laura Kaye.

Now for the reviews of the individual books

Falling for the Groomsmen by Diane Alberts
This is a great childhood crush to life long forever  story. Tyler has a lot to make up for and Christine doesn't let him off too easy but he is more than willing to put in the hard work.
Plenty of sexy chemistry makes this a wonderful read.

Baiting the Maid of Honor by Tessa Bailey
This is a wonderful sexy tale of two total opposites who are far more perfect for each other than either suspects.  I loved the interaction between Reed and Julie some say arguing is the best form of foreplay and these two have the art down to a t.

Seducing the Bridesmaid by Katee Robert
This book proves that even the best laid plans go awry and when they do you might just find your happy ever after. Brock lives a challenge and Regan certainly provides one.  There was one little continuity error in this book but unless you read the books back to back like I did you probably wouldn't notice.  Definitely a fun sexy read.

Best Man with Benefits by Samanthe Beck
If I had to pick a favourite of the entire series this one would be it.  Shy girl with hidden bombshell catches the attention of the sexy work obsessed best man whats not to love.

Book Details: Novella
Genre: Romantic MM Suspense
Author: Tami Veldura
Summary

“Serenity,” a photograph worth four million dollars, was sold at auction to an anonymous bidder, and stealing it will represent the largest payday Daniel will have ever had. To make that happen, he poses as a photography curator to attract the attention of Kearin, the auction house owner.

Kearin takes Daniel under his wing to work in the non-profit branch of his business, but it’s a cover for his desire to see Daniel naked, bound, and needy for the camera. Kearin has a client interested in a very specific portfolio—filling the request would put him at the top of his field.

Daniel thinks he can use the modeling to get closer to “Serenity.” What he doesn't expect is to fall for Kearin's brand of intensity instead. So does he go for the photograph or Kearin's heart? He wouldn't call himself a master thief if he couldn't steal both.

David helps Alex pick up the pieces of her shattered life, happy to have any time with the woman he’s loved for seventeen years. Every moment with her is ripe with opportunity, and every last idea running through his mind would destroy his brotherly bond with Glenn.

A single kiss and the floodgates open, giving her new hopes of happiness. But when David and Glenn’s band has a chance to be back on top again, David must convince Glenn to return. With every passing day, success comes closer, Glenn’s ego inflates, and David and Alex find it more difficult to hide. One misstep and the secret comes out, forcing David to choose between his life’s work and the woman he doesn’t want to leave behind.

Review:

I always get so excited when i get an email from Karen Booth telling me she has a new book coming out an would i like to review it. I so love her books especially her Rockstars . Her books are like watching an episode of where are they now for your favourite band as a teen.

Hiding in the Spotlight is no exception. I loved watching the relationship between Alex and David develop it felt very natural and perfect. I must admit I wasn't expecting the book to finish the way it did but i loved it. Definitely pick this one up, it is well worth the read.

Overall i give this 5 out of 5

Author bio:

Karen Booth is a Midwestern girl transplanted in the South, raised on 80s music, Judy Blume, and the films of John Hughes. An early preoccupation with rock 'n' roll led her to spend her twenties working her way from intern to executive in the music industry. Several of her books revolve around the world of backstage passes and band dynamics.

When she's not creating fictional musicians, she's listening to everything from Otis Redding to Duran Duran to Tokyo Police Club with her kids, honing her Southern cooking skills (she makes some mean collards), or sweet-talking her astoundingly supportive husband into whipping up a batch of cocktails.

Review:

So I had think for a few days about this book before I could post the review. As someone who was a subject of the popular girls teasing at high school i wanted to hate Natalie and i think that was where my conflict lie because i just couldn't. Even though i found myself internally shouting at her constantly to grow a back bone.

I did enjoy this book and found myself furiously flipping the pages wanting to know how Natalie and Jack would find there happy ever after. But I must admit i got to the end and my first thought was WTF   that's all there is. I did feel that for me at least some of the emotions just didn't feel resolved.

Overall I give this 3.75 out of 5 It was a great premise but not sure it the author pulled it off.

Talk to the Moon

Summary

When Kyle Chase was eighteen, he had his life all mapped out: a business degree and a long, happy life with his childhood sweetheart. Seven years later, Kyle is still haunted by the girl who declared her everlasting love to him before disappearing without a word as soon as he left for college. With the realization that the memories are stopping him from living his life, Kyle posts an ad in hopes of making contact with the woman who broke his heart.

Sadie Long has finally found her niche in the world as an artist, years after leaving the South and her trailer-trash parents. Every month, her muse drives Sadie to create another artwork featuring a vivid full moon and the boy she left behind, and it's driving her crazy. When she comes across an ad in Craigslist’s “Missed Connections,” she knows it’s from him, and even though she’s terrified of how he might feel about what she did when they were teenagers, she has no choice but to respond to the ad.

When the truth comes out, will Kyle be able to forgive Sadie and move forward, or will they always be stuck in the past?

Excerpt

Chapter One

Kyle Chase tossed his empty beer bottle into the recycle bin on the way to grab another from the fridge, then ambled his way back outside into the night. He stretched out on the soft lounge chair and twisted the cap off his beer, taking a long pull. Because he kept the lights off on the patio, since he preferred the intimacy of the darkness, his eyes were immediately drawn to the night sky.
The full moon hung low on the horizon making it appear larger than normal, and it glowed a dull orange thanks to the city’s pollution. Nothing obstructed his view of it. His house sat on a mountain at the southern end of the San Fernando Valley, just north of Los Angeles, and it was elevated above most other homes and the surrounding area. It had been the feature that sealed the deal on his purchasing the house with money from his inheritance, but on nights like these it was also a curse.
Any time the moon was full, and he wasn’t distracted with work, he sat out here. Alone. Usually drinking. The damned thing always reminded Kyle of her. And even though he hated the reminder, he couldn’t help himself and was constantly tortured by the sight of it anyway. Disgusted with his line of thinking, he gulped from his beer bottle again, but didn’t move away.
The stillness of the night was disturbed by the sound of the patio door opening behind him.
“Hey, Chase, what’s happening?” Nathan, his roommate, asked from the doorway. “Ah, never mind. Need a refill?”
“Sure,” Kyle mumbled. He heard the door close and then open again.
Nathan handed over the beer before he plopped down in the chair next to Kyle’s. Both men sat in silence for a moment drinking their beers while Kyle stared at the moon and tried not to think about the past.
“Still nothing?” Nathan asked.
“Why do you continue to ask me that?” Kyle snapped at his best friend.
“Well, since you found out she lives in this state, I figured that maybe she might have found out you live here too.”
Even though Nathan was only trying to help, Kyle didn’t care where she lived. She’d known where he was when he went away to school and never bothered to contact him, so why would it matter now. He just wondered if she thought of him as he did her.
He’d recently found out she lived in San Francisco from his dad, who had bumped into one of her cousins. Growing up in a small town outside Savannah, Georgia, it wasn’t uncommon to bump into someone, who knew someone, who was related to someone else. Her cousin had mentioned she lived in the Bay Area “trying to be a painter” or something.
It didn’t surprise Kyle that her family was so flippant. They had no idea how talented she really was. Kyle still remembered her doodling in notebook after notebook. She’d draw anything and everything, using pencils or pens. Sometimes she’d paint or even use crayons. She said she liked the way the wax glided across the paper. They were teenagers then. Now as an adult, she was apparently trying to make a living out of something she loved. Kyle admired her . . . even as he hated her for leaving him. Well, he tried to hate her.
“Look, I doubt she even knows I’m alive, let alone living in the same state she does. She probably assumes I stayed in Miami after school or even moved back home to Georgia to be an accountant. If she wanted to find me, all she had to do was call my parents,” Kyle said with a sigh. He felt so boring compared to her. Kyle had always believed he was dark shadows while she was a mesmerizing rainbow glistening after a spring shower.
“Well, you’d think someone would’ve told her you live in the City of Angels . . . with your incredibly handsome and talented friend as he realizes his dream of becoming an actor,” Nathan said with such dramatics it made Kyle toss his bottle cap at him.
“You’re an ass is what you are. One commercial doesn’t make you anything special.”
“The hell you say! I’m well on my way to an Oscar!” Nathan shook his finger at Kyle.
“Go away. I want to wallow in my beer alone for a bit still.”
“Fine, but maybe you should reach out to her. Look for her on Facebook or some other crap like that. I mean it’s been what? Seven years now, and you still sulk every month like a lovesick teenager.”
Kyle shot an irritated glare at Nathan.
“You’re twenty-five, yet you never keep a steady girlfriend, and I’ve known you since college. What’s the worst that can happen by reaching out?” Nathan asked as he stood and took Kyle’s empty bottle from him.
Kyle sighed. He had heard it all before, so he simply grumbled his thanks and looked up at the moon again, barely noticing that Nathan had returned inside.
Maybe Nathan was right; maybe he should search for her. It was becoming more obvious to him that something might be broken within him. Every woman he’d ever dated had always been compared to Sadie. How fair was that to him or to the women? Why did he continue to hold her up on a pedestal when she’d left him like she had? He needed to move on, and deep down he wanted to, but every month that damned moon showed up and reminded him of what he lost. Even tonight’s moon took him back to the most important time they’d spent together.
He’d never forget the night he took Sadie to the lake near his house that late spring so many years ago. The flowers had just bloomed and the evening was still too chilly for the critters to come out. They had spread a blanket on the grassy shore and cuddled together on it before covering up with another. Kyle could still remember their conversation like it was yesterday.

 Moon over the Bay

Summary

Nathan Wolfe is gorgeous, and your typical surfer guy with blond hair, blue eyes, and tanned muscle.  Looks like that should help him chase his dream of becoming an actor, but he’s had nothing but failed auditions for months. After confiding in his best friend that he’s been feeling a little lost, Kyle invites him to San Francisco where he’s been spending time with his girlfriend, Sadie. Nathan jumps at the chance in the hope that a change in scenery will lift his mood.

Jess Dempsey comes from a rich and influential family, and does have a liking for the finer things in life . . . like designer shoes and handbags. But she’s not your typical heiress to a fortune—she prefers to put her art history degree to work. Much to her parents’ dismay, Jess runs a successful business as an art agent, instead of taking her place in the family business. When her best friend, and most successful client, Sadie, asks a favor, Jess finds herself face to face with Nathan, and it's lust at first sight.

But Nathan won't be anyone's playboy, he’s been there done that, and Jess has learned her lesson the hard way when it comes to pretty faces and their love of her wallet.

Excerpt

Chapter One

Nathan Wolfe dropped into the seat of his Mustang, throwing his messenger bag next to him. Another casting call, another waste of time. He was so sick of hearing the same things: you’re too tall, you’re too blond, you’re too all-American, you’re not dark enough, you’re not manly enough. He snorted. He could show those annoying casting agents a thing or two about manly. Didn’t matter anyway, Nathan would never see those people again. He was over this whole cattle-call audition process. He was starting to think he was over the whole acting thing.
He gassed it as he backed out of the parking space at the production offices in Burbank and roared toward home. Located on a mountain overlooking the San Fernando Valley, just north of L.A., it was Nathan’s favorite place. He shared the house with his best friend from college. Lately, though, it felt like he lived alone. Kyle spent all his time in San Francisco these days to be with the love of his life.
After pulling into the driveway, he was surprised to see Kyle’s Audi in the garage. Nathan smiled. Maybe a few beers with his friend would make the day better.
He climbed out of the car and walked in the side door. Kyle was sitting at the kitchen island using his phone. He was wearing a goofy grin, which of course meant he must be texting with his girlfriend.
“Hey, man, nice to see you home for a change,” Nathan teased as he sat his bag down.
“Hey, bro, how’s it going? Audition today?” Kyle asked, standing to give Nathan a welcoming hug. Something Nathan would never ever admit he needed.
“Yeah, it was crap though. Same shit as always. I’m too ‘whatever’ for the role. Today I was too ‘surfer.’ I’m kind of over it.” Nathan rolled his eyes before heading to the fridge.
“Ah man, that sucks. I’m sorry,” Kyle said absentmindedly as he went to sort through the mail.
“Eh, I’ll survive. Besides I’m almost too busy for auditions anyway. I’ve been buried with graphic-design work for a huge company website and some other marketing stuff that I almost forgot to do today.” Nathan twisted the cap off his beer and took a drink. “To be honest, I think I’m going to take a break from acting.” Nathan sighed. Kyle looked up from the mail and stared in shock.
“What? Why? I mean I know it’s been a while since you’ve had a job, but I know you’re going to land something awesome soon,” Kyle offered.
Nathan was always touched at the unwavering support Kyle gave him. They’d moved to Los Angeles after college because Nathan wanted to be an actor, and Kyle thought he could do it. Now years later, Nathan had nothing really to show for the few gigs he’d landed except his Mustang he bought with his first big check.
“Thanks man, I appreciate it. It’s been a rough couple of weeks and with you not here . . .” Nathan trailed off, shrugging. He really hated to sound needy, but Kyle and his dad were all the family Nathan had. Sure they texted all the time, but it wasn’t the same as when he and Kyle sat in the backyard and watched the sun go down. His auditions were getting to him lately; he’d even quit the dumb valet job he’d been suffering through, because hoping to get noticed by a casting agent wasn’t panning out anyway. He’d been spending more time on his graphic design business while he re-evaluated his life.
“I know . . . and I’m sorry for not being around, and now I’m packing up to head back up there tomorrow. I only came back to go into the office for some face to face meetings today,” Kyle said. Nathan fought the disappointment that flooded him. Another weekend in the house, alone.
“Hey, why don’t you come with me this weekend? I’ve got to come back for a big client meeting on Monday, so I’m not going to stay long. I even have somewhere you can stay,” Kyle said with hope in his features.
