Spotlight: Saving Molly by @LizaOConnor

Media Package for Saving Molly

One of Liza’s many life stories that gets into a novel.
When I was eighteen, I worked five different jobs during the summer. Only two of the jobs were ‘full time’ and the other three were part-time. Needless to say I was frequently sleep deprived and cranky.
One of the part time jobs (three hours a night) was being a DJ at a local radio station. The radio station manager was a very small slime ball. Well, actually, he was a big slime ball hiding in a little guy body. I towered over him. He gave me a little trouble, but nothing I couldn’t handle. However, he was making the noon-time DJ’s life utter hell. Because this was her only and full time job, she had to do more than her three-hour air slot. A few weeks before, he decided she needed to help sell advertisement slots for the radio station.
And here is how he explained her job. “I’ll line up the customers. Then you’ll go in alone for an hour and warm them up, then I’ll come in and close the deal.”
Does that set off any alarms to you? Before I could even make my objections, she burst into tears and admits what she had to do to ‘warm’ clients up. Now she was terrified that her husband would find out and he evidently had a temper. She desperately needed advice. Being 18 years old, I had lots of advice.
“You need to dump both your husband and this job. But let’s focus on this job. You are really good. I mean that. You could get a job in any radio station in the U.S.  Seriously! So my advice is to send demos out to stations in other states and find a new home, away from both jerks.
Evidently, my fine advice took a month to percolate, but finally, she divorced her husband and left to Tulsa where she quickly became the top radio announcer in the state. She truly was a fabulous DJ.
Being the only other female DJ left at the station, the radio manager tried to lure me into warming up the buyers. When he suggested me working more hours, I confessed I had five jobs, and really couldn’t do more hours. When he hinted he might have to let me go then, I shrugged. “Shouldn’t you fire the idiot before me?” (There was a male DJ at the station which might have been the WORST DJ in the world.)
“Can’t, his father is a major advertiser.”
“Then hire a hooker. The last thing you want is a smart ass, ill-tempered virgin warming up your buyers.” I then hurried into the booth to do my show. He never spoke to me again. Nor did he fire me. A month later, I left as planned and headed off to college.

Molly Brown always faces life with a smile, even when a frightening thug is intent upon killing her. At first, Detective Sean Cushing finds Molly’s cheery disposition unnatural, especially when he discovers the seriousness of her injuries. When she asks for police protection, he instead offers her a job and home being a nanny to his five-year-old daughter, hoping her cheery disposition can pull his child from her dark hole of misery. Never did he expect he’d be proposing marriage within a day, but life has a way of going in odd directions when Molly Brown is involved.

EXCERPT

“So why’d you get fired?”
Silence.
Sean glanced down at her. She was mauling her lip. “If I’m going to find you a new job and a place to stay, I need to know.”
The brilliant smile returned. “You’re going to find me both?”
“Depends on why you got fired.”
Her brow furrowed. “I’m not really sure why. I thought I was doing a good job. My boss seemed happy. He didn’t like my clothes—said they were too dowdy. He thought I should dress like Angie, but I wasn’t comfortable wearing…”
“Wearing what?”
“So little. It didn’t seem professional to me.”
“So he fired you for failing to dress sexy?” Sean asked.
“Not directly. He just stopped being pleased with me. In fact, he’d frown every time he saw me.”
“So how’d you get fired?” Why was it that no one could just answer his questions?
“He called me into his office and told me it was time I stopped with the child routine and grow up. He had arranged for me to meet a client in his home, and my job was to make the client happy…so happy he’d buy a thousand top-of-the-line copiers for his company. This sale would be twenty percent of our annual sales, so I couldn’t screw it up.”
“What did you say?”
“I said I didn’t think I was ready for such an important sale and he should send someone else, like Clark.” She paused and explained, “In my opinion, Clark is the best salesman in the office. My boss said Clark wouldn’t do. The client didn’t swing that way.”
Several cops standing in the hall stared their way.
“Keep your voice down,” Sean whispered.

This is a must read and as far as i'm concerned some of  Laura Kaye's best work i cannot wait for the rest of the series.

Overall I give it 10 out of 5 because seriously it is that good.

EXCERPT – Mia’s Interest:

So many readers asked for more stories in my bestselling Hard Ink series, and I’m so excited to be able to give you just that in my new, super sexy HARD TO SERVE! HARD TO SERVE is an edgy stand-alone love story about a Baltimore police detective whose red-hot BDSM relationship with a new submissive seems like the perfect distraction from a trumped-up investigation against him until he learns that the woman is his boss’s daughter. Talk about sparks flying! I had so much fun writing this book, and I can’t wait for everyone to read it! And if you enjoy it, you might like to check out the whole Hard Ink series, now complete! Happy reading!

Kyler pressed a kiss to Mia’s forehead. “You can trust me to take care of you.” Sitting back, his gaze swept down her face, enjoying the pleased expression she wore. From the promise of his words or the kiss? He laid his hand against her sternum and slowly slid his palm upward until his thumb and fingers separated around the base of her throat. He applied just the slightest amount of pressure there.

She sucked in a breath, and that one reaction surged blood into his cock. Mia squirmed, rocketing his arousal even further.

“Be still,” he gritted out.

She froze, her eyes on his.

“How important is the breath play to you?” Her eyes dilated, her expression read as needy, and her breathing quickened. Her obvious excitement went a long way toward answering the question. And these reaction were exactly what he loved about it. But did she need it?

“I don’t have to have it, but…” She looked down, her eyelashes fanning out against her skin.

“Look at me and finish that sentence,” he said, his voice full of grit. Because against his fingers, her pulse was flying.

“But it probably excites me more than anything else, and it gets me off faster than anything else,” she said, her cheeks turning beautifully pink.

“Does it now?” Not that he really needed to ask. His grip tightened, just a little.

“Yes, Sir,” she whispered, her voice breathy, full of desire.

“Say my name,” he said, wanting to hear it with all that arousal coloring her tone.

“Yes, Master Kyler.”

Fucking hell.

In a quick move, he slid his hand up her back and fisted her ponytail, tugging her head backward and her whole body closer. Hand still gripping her throat, he shifted them so that she was almost reclining, allowing him to look down into her face.

And he thought her pulse had been flying before.

“You like to be choked?”

“Yes, Sir.”

“Choked to the point of not being able to breathe?”

“Yes, Sir.”

His grip tightened. “Gagged?”

“Yes. Sir,” she added, as if she’d momentarily forgotten protocol.

Jesus Christ, his cock was like fucking steel. “Asphyxiated to the point of passing out?” he asked, his gut twisting.

“I’ve never done that. The idea of it…” He nailed her with a stare, allowing her the time to gather the words the little furrow in her brow said she was looking for. “It both excites me and scares me, but I’m not sure which more.”

“Thank you for the honesty. I won’t go that far, Mia. I won’t put plastic over your head and I won’t duct tape your mouth. I also won’t use any bondage position that hangs you primarily by the throat or neck. If any of those are things you need, I won’t be able to give them to you,” he said, hoping like hell she didn’t need them. Occasionally, he had a moment of discomfort—maybe even cognitive dissonance—about the fact that he was both a cop and a Dom who got off on bondage and submission and spanking and even role-playing scenarios that flirted with non-consent. Because he’d seen the trauma real abuse caused. But what he did was safe, sane, and consensual, and he drew the line where any of those three might be compromised, which in his opinion included the edgier breath play.

A fast shake of her head. “No. I don’t want any of that. I just want—” Her eyes went wide.

“What, little one?” Satisfaction at her answer mixed with curiosity about what she’d not said. He needed to know.

Her throat worked under his hand in a hard swallow. “You.”

New Release: Unexpected Love by @LizaOConnor

How To Wreck a Career
There’s probably fifty ways to achieve this one. Cursing out your boss would be one. However, ignoring Home Security advice and taking a bunch of students into the Middle East into a war zone would no doubt be one.
And It’s a guaranteed firing if some of the students get killed.

By Liza O’Connor
Contemporary Suspense/Sweet Romance
Blurb
Tess Campbell is a mafia princess who wants nothing to do with her dangerous family. She’d rather spend her life making Grams's forest the best state park in Iowa.
Alistair Castile, aka Steel, is a British prince, his archeological career in ruins due to his promiscuous nature. He’s hired on as forest manager of Tess’s woods and quickly falls in love with the charming young woman, so different from the socialites of his world.
Only there are several serious barriers between them: Steel’s career cannot withstand another scandal and Tess’s father will kill anyone who gets in the way of his daughter marrying a Chicago mobster.

Excerpt for Unexpected Love
Here’s one of Steel’s version of how some of his students got killed:
“To get my field work funded from a legitimate source, I had to become a college professor. That resulted in a great deal of young women enrolling in my classes.”
“I can imagine,” she chuckled, but sobered at his pained eyes.
“Because I didn’t believe in love, I didn’t value their affections. I was going through my female students about one a month.”
Her heart tightened. “What do mean ‘going through’?”
“I’d let a young woman pursue me for a while, then drop whoever I was shagging—and to me that’s all it was—to start up with a new student. But at the first fight or argument, I’d drop her for the next in line.”
“That sounds horrible…for everyone.”
“Well, it almost cost me my career, and it did cost me my first job.” His eyes darkened with pain. “It probably caused two young women to lose their lives. So from my view, I had become a man who shamed and disgusted me.”
She wanted to comfort him, but she couldn’t until she knew more about the two women who died. “The two women…” She didn’t even know how to finish the question.
“They were grad students, probably in the picture you found on the Internet. Diane Compton and Ashley Stanton. I’d had affairs with both of them while they were undergrads. When they applied to go on my archeological dig, I turned them down. Only they took it to the dean, declaring I was discriminating against females. So the dean insisted I take them.”
He sighed as he covered his face with his hands and remained quiet for a long moment. Finally, he spoke. “I treated them with utmost professionalism, but they constantly challenged my orders and questioned my competency. The male grad students were convinced I was sleeping with them because why else would I put up with all their shit?”
“Why did you?”
“Because I felt responsible for the anger that fueled their bad attitudes.” He sighed heavily and stared at the ceiling a long time before continuing.
“When the helicopter arrived and started shooting at us, I ordered everyone to the hills. So naturally, they refused to leave the car. I can’t help but think if I had never mixed work with pleasure, they would still be alive. Their parents certainly thought so. They blamed me for luring their daughters into harm’s way.”
“But you tried to stop them from going.”
“The dean seemed to have forgotten that. I was charged with behavior unbecoming and for endangering the lives of my students. Never mind they had approved and paid for the dig, never mind that I had never had sex with these women since they became grad students. They declared the whole disaster entirely my fault.”
She gripped his hands in hers. “It wasn’t. First of all, they pursued you as undergrads.”
He nodded.
“Then they forced you to take them on this dig. And finally, they ignored your orders, which ultimately got them killed. Your only mistake was not to build a wall between personal and professional.” Pain forced her to close her eyes as she realized something. “And Dr. Castile, you’re doing it again.”

Review:
Ms Robert has a new series and boy is it good.

From the very beginning of this book I was hooked. In the first chapter you pretty much meet all the characters for the series bar one i think and i just can not wait to read all the stories.

The thing I love the most about this book is Jules she is that girl no one ever thought would amount to much, too homely, too quirky yet she isn't really she's just comfortable in her own skin. That is until her Ex re appears and sets her world on end and she comes up with a plan to show everyone including her Ex that they are wrong.

Adam on the other hand had the perfect life until he didn't or so he thought but best laid plans always go awry and sometimes for the better.

Adam and Jules are the most unlikely of couples but they are perfect for one another and they most definitely steam up the page.

This is an excellent read and I highly recommend it. 5 out of 5

The Foolproof Love series continues…

They might barely be able to hold down a civil conversation, but in bed those fireworks are only the good kind. Excerpt
“That’s really sweet, Grant. It was great seeing you, but my boyfriend is waiting for me.”
He frowned. “Boyfriend?”
“Oh, yeah, it’s a new thing. We haven’t exactly gone public with it—you know how Devil’s Falls can be—so you wouldn’t have heard.” She gave him a pat on his arm. “It was nice seeing you. So great. Really, we’ll have to catch up sometime soon.” And then she stepped around him, dragging Aubry behind her.
“What are you doing?” Aubry whispered.
“Winging it.” She stopped by the trio of men, all too aware of Grant watching her. “Hi, Daniel. Quinn. Adam.” They raised their beers.
Daniel looked over her shoulder with a frown. “Is that your piece-of-shit ex-boyfriend I see?”
“The very one.” She disentangled her arm from Aubry’s. “Speaking of, I need a favor.”
“Anything for you, kid.”
She tried not to roll her eyes at him calling her kid. He was a whole seven years older than her. Not exactly ancient. “Actually, it’s not you I need the favor from.” Before she could talk herself out of it, she sidled up to Adam and put her arms around his neck. To his credit, he didn’t shove her on her butt in the dirt, merely raising his eyebrows. Jules kept her voice low so there was no chance of Grant overhearing. “So as you’ve noticed, my ex is watching me really closely right now, and I might have told him a tiny white lie about me dating someone in order to avoid a devastating dose of humiliation. And since I can’t date Daniel and no one would ever believe I’d date Quinn—”
The man in question frowned. “You really know how to hit a man where it hurts, Jules.”
“—that leaves you.”
Adam’s face remained impassive. “I see.”
There wasn’t a whole lot to work with in those words, but he also had let his free hand drift down to settle on her hip, so she just kept talking. “If you could just play along and maybe kiss me like you want to do filthy things to me in the bed of your truck, I’d really appreciate it.”
If anything, his eyebrows rose higher. “That guy really got under your skin, didn’t he?”
“You have no idea.” Next to them, Daniel made a sound suspiciously like a growl, but neither of them looked over. Adam’s hand pulsed on her hip, the heat of it shocking despite the warmth of the night. His calluses dragged over the sensitive skin bared by her T-shirt, and she shivered. Maybe this was a terrible idea. She didn’t have time to really reconsider, though, because he set down his beer, cupped the back of her neck, and dealt her the single most devastating kiss of her life.
No, not a kiss.
He took possession of her mouth, his tongue tracing the seam of her lips and then delving inside. He tasted of beer and something darker, something that hinted at exactly what she’d asked for—like he wanted to do filthy things to her in the bed of his truck. She closed her eyes, giving his tongue a tentative stroke, and had to fight down a moan at the way the move made her entire body go tight. More.
He lifted his head, breaking the kiss and slamming her back into the real world. She blinked up at him, all too aware of her body pressed against the entirety of his, of how he was hard in all the places she was soft, of how goddamn good he smelled. “Wow.”
There went that eyebrow again. “You think it was believable?”

Excerpt from Risking It All:

“Listen to me, if I wanted to fuck you, I’d end anyone or anything who got in my way. Nothing would stop me. Not a locked door. Not some lowlife. Nothing.” “If?” she repeated, embarrassment cooling her desire. “You don’t want to?” His laughter was harsh. “Want to? Want to?” One of his hands loosened its grip to drop down and grasp the bulge in his pants. “I didn’t even know it was possible to ache this bad. It hurts to breathe, baby.” The heat came rushing back in full force. “Then I don’t understand.” “I can’t. We can’t.” He pressed his forehead to hers. “See, I’m wondering if keeping my hands off you will buy my way out of hell. God knows I’ll have experienced the worst hell has to offer already. You think he’ll make me go through it twice?” The suffering in his voice lacerated her. There was so much more going on here than sexual frustration, although there was definitely a healthy dose of that. He seemed to think there would be consequences for getting physical with her. But that didn’t make any sense. Since when does a man who rules streets with fear care about consequences for anything? This man took what he wanted and damn the outcome. Right? Without thinking, she took the hand he’d dropped and brushed a stray piece of hair off his forehead. His body went liquid, melting against her for long moments while she held her breath. “Aren’t there other ways to buy yourself out of hell?” “Not for me.”

About Up In Smoke:

Never start a fire you can’t control… Connor Bannon is supposed to be dead. Dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEALs, he’s spent the last two years working as a street enforcer in Brooklyn for his cousin’s crime ring. Through a twist of fate, he’s now in Chicago, working undercover to bust criminals. But when a cute little arsonist joins the team-all combat boots, tiny jean shorts, and hot-pink hair-Connor’s notorious iron control slips. Erin “she’s getting away” O’Dea knows two things. She hates authority. And… Nope, that’s it. When she’s forced to operate on the “right” side of the law, her fear of being confined and controlled blazes to the surface. The last thing she expects is a control freak like Connor to soothe her when she needs it most. Worse, something behind the sexy ex-soldier’s eyes ignites a dangerous inferno of desire. One that invites Erin to play with fire. And one that could get them both killed…

Excerpt form Up In Smoke:

Connor broke away, allowing them both to suck in oxygen. “Stay. I’m sorry. Stay.” He bent his knees to bring them eye to eye. His spoke of torture, but he was trying to hide it. “Look at me. I can handle this. I want you here. Don’t leave.” “I don’t know if I can handle it,” she whispered. His heavy breaths ceased. “What do you mean?” She drew out a lighter from her back pocket and ignited the flame. It cleared her head a little, allowing her to search for the right words. Words that wouldn’t sound crazy. “I like touching you. It makes me feel really…good. And there isn’t a whole lot that makes me feel good, you know?” Her throat closed up. “I wish you could touch me, too. I don’t think I can stay here knowing I’m hurting you by making myself feel good…and I don’t think I can stop touching you. It feels like a must.” A flare of panic flashed across his face. “I shouldn’t have said what I did earlier. You just caught me off guard.” He massaged his forehead with four fingers. “Did I scare you? Is that why you’re really leaving?” “No.” She shook her head. “No.” “Okay. Jesus. Okay.” He was silent a moment, but gears were turning behind his eyes. “You need to touch me and I need you to stay. Let’s give each other what we need. All right?” Why was this so damn confusing? She’d only met this man yesterday and they were already tangled up in her web of fucked-up issues. He should want to be clear of her, shouldn’t he? No one else had ever bothered with her this long before. “Why? Why do you need me to stay? I—” “I won’t rest,” he growled. “I’ll think about you somewhere, scared like you were last night, and I’ll go fucking crazy.” Her heart lurched, dislodging her pride. “I’ve been taking care of myself for a long time. If the only reason you want me here is to play nursemaid to the crazy girl, that’s not going to work for me.” “You know there’s more to it. You know.” He visibly centered himself with a deep breath, appearing to debate with himself. “I’ve got my own skeletons, Erin. They don’t rattle so much when you’re around. Your touching me…it makes me hot. But it soothes elsewhere.” She knew her expression was pathetically hopeful, but couldn’t find a single shit to give. “Yeah?” “Yeah,” he repeated. “I’m not going to lie, Erin. Yes, I want to sleep with you like hell. But only if it’s healthy. Would you trust me enough to go slow? A little at a time?” Her pulse hammered out of control. “You touching me?” Connor watched her closely. “When you’re ready. Not before. Never before.” This is where she should climb down the fire escape and vamoose toward the street. A weight pressed down on her rib cage, making it difficult to draw a breath. It felt like the point of no return. But Connor’s eyes grounded her. Safe. He’s safe. “Okay, baby. Slow.” His body drained of tension. “Thank you.” He leaned in and brushed their lips together, gently, reverently. “First, we talk.”

Excerpt form Boiling Point:

“Drop the gun.” He issued the order through clenched teeth. “I find the idea of hurting you distasteful.” She twisted her body, an attempt to regain control of the Beretta. “I can’t believe you don’t have the decency to put your dick away before charging at me.” Call him sick, call him whatever you liked, he liked Polly talking about his dick in any capacity. Look at it. Want it. “I’m the furthest thing from decent.” “No shit.” They were breathing heavily, inches from each other’s mouths. And hell if the swollen bastard between his thighs didn’t react favorably to having her close, even though she might have come there to murder him in cold blood. Pity, his cock didn’t deal in semantics. “One last chance, Banks. Drop the gun or I’ll take it away from you.” She pretended to think about it. “See, I’m not really in the mood to cry uncle.” “Are you in the mood to cry Austin? Now that could be interesting.” She attempted to jerk the Beretta away again, giving him no choice but to dig his thumb into the pressure point on her wrist, releasing her grip automatically. “There now.” Keeping his attention trained on Polly, he placed the gun out of her reach on an overhead shelf. “That wasn’t so difficult, was—” Her freed fist drilled him in the stomach. A grunt burst past his lips, but masculine pride kept him standing upright. Well, masculine pride and another fist flying in his direction, this time at his head. He shot a hand out to intercept the punch, using the grip to drag Polly off the sink and twist her arm behind her back. “Aiming for this moneymaker face, sweet?” He clucked his tongue. “Now that’s just cruel.” “Let me go,” she demanded, her voice vibrating with anger. Although he detected more embarrassment than anything else. He’d never seen her anything but confident. Ready for a challenge. It didn’t sit well that he’d scored her pride, so he let go of her arm. He had questions that needed answering, though, so as soon as he refastened his pants—not an easy feat when his cock still stood at attention—Austin pressed her body back against the sink, blocking both avenues of escape with his arms. “How did you find my address? I’ve made it impossible.” Some of her confidence returned in the form of a chin lift. Jesus, he would’ve liked to see that chin pointed toward the ceiling as she wailed for more tongue. “You should know by now that nothing is impossible for me.” Intelligence glimmered in her eyes. “I know you asked Derek to pay you by money order. I tracked the last several serial numbers to four different check-cashing places in the neighborhood.” Her shrug appeared grudging. “That was smart, not using the same place consistently. But I was able to pinpoint your general location down to a three-block radius, nonetheless. This building is the only one not run by a professional management company, and the most likely to rent without a proper credit check and accept cash deposits.” It took an effort, but Austin managed to hide the chest-expanding awe she’d inspired. “And my apartment number? How did you manage to glean that information, my hot little sleuth?” “I’m not your anything, Shaw.” She narrowed her gaze. “And your buzzer has the name I.M. TheTits on it.”

Raw Redemption (2) #DONE #1

Excerpt from Raw Redemption:

Henrik’s sigh blew her hair back like a stiff gust of wind. “While I’m with you, Ailish, I’m working. There are lines I can’t cross.” Even knowing it was a little evil, nothing could suppress the pop of excitement in her belly. She was alone with a man—a gorgeous man—who wanted her. But had to keep his hands off. It was a tease’s paradise, and they were both screwed. Or not screwed, depending on your point of view. “We can’t sleep together.” “No.” He dropped his needful gaze to her breasts again. “We can’t.” She executed her best nonchalant shoulder shrug. “Oh.” “You’re smiling again.” Ailish couldn’t stifle her chuckle. Man oh man, she really liked this big ol’ man, and they’d only just met. He deserved a fair warning about what he was getting himself into. “Henrik, you should probably put as much distance between you and me as possible. I really like that you want me. And I probably won’t be able to help trying to keep it that way.” She drew a lazy circle on his abdomen with her index finger, watching in awe as the ridged muscle shuddered under her touch. “For instance, I’d love to tell you I’m wearing cheap white panties and you can see clear through them in the right light.” His body did this kind of heave, right at Ailish, flattening her backside against the sink. Their mouths were suddenly so close, she could feel his hot puffs of breath on her lips, feel his chest lifting and falling where it met her breasts. “I don’t like hearing that you’ve talked to other men that way.” “I haven’t,” she whispered. “I don’t. I usually just—” “I do not want to know.” Henrik made a subtle move, just a downward roll of his hips that dragged his erection over the crotch of her leggings. But it wasn’t really subtle at all because he stopped right over her clit and nudged forward. She nearly jumped out of her skin, it was so unexpected, her body’s deluge of need so extreme. “H’oh boy.” His mouth sifted through the hair covering her ear. “Tease me as much as you want. Just don’t try to send me packing again. Are we clear?” “I told you I don’t like being ordered around.” He rasped the stubble of his jaw against her neck. “You’d love the way I do it.”
