Guestblog/Review: Worst Week Ever by Liza O'Connor

Melissa: Today Trent Lancaster has agreed to come and be interviewed. I requested him to come alone because I want to discover his true feelings for Carrie.
*Checks watch* He should have been here by now...

Ah, that's either Trent or the Russian Mafia. Who else arrives in a bullet proof limo?
Trent: *storms in* Do you have any idea how much trouble it is to drive from New York City to Perth Australia?

Melissa: You drove?
Trent: Of course not. I have a driver.
Melissa: And he drove--across an ocean?
Trent: Don't be ridiculous, that would take days. I hired a cargo plane so my limo could follow my private jet.
Melissa: You know, we do have car rentals in Perth.
Trent: Yes, but you've put the steering wheel on the wrong side and none of your rentals are bullet proof. I had my butler check.
Melissa: Well, I'm indeed honored you went to such trouble to come.
Trent: I really had no choice. Liza said she owed you and I was to go and be nice or else.
Melissa: Or else what?
Trent: I've no idea, but with Liza such threats must be taken seriously. She lacks normal boundaries.
Melissa: I've noticed that myself. She once bound me in rope and  kidnapped me just so she could find out about my book Fall in Love.
Trent: Now I understand why she insisted I come. You are clearly an expert in this matter of love. I need to know how to make Carrie fall in love with me.
Melissa: You do not make someone fall in love with you. You must become a man worthy of her love.
Trent: Are you sure you're an expert, because that sounds like the crap Carrie reads to me from Chinese Fortune Cookies. Sorry. Do you even know what a fortune cookie is?
Melissa: We have about 47 Chinese restaurants in Perth, so yes I know what a fortune cookie is. You do realize while we claim to be 'down under' that doesn't mean we've fallen into oblivion. Australia is a mix of outback wilderness, sophisticated cities, and everything between.
Trent: Really?  Based on Liza's stories I thought it was all danger and adventure.
Melissa: We have that too.
Trent: Can we get back to my problem?
Melissa: Making Carrie love you.
Trent: Ha! I knew it was possible!
Melissa: I've read book one, Worst Week Ever...
Trent: Don't judge Carrie by that. She was having a bad week.
Melissa: Yes, she was. But I have to say, you didn't make it any easier on her.
Trent: That's not true! I saved her life twice. Her week would have been much worse otherwise.
Melissa: Hold on! I only recall you saving her once.
Trent: Twice. Had I not bought this limo she would have died on Monday when Sam foolishly took a short cut the Beirut.

Melissa: As would have you.
Trent: That's irrelevant. Without Carrie, everything good in my life would be gone anyway.
Melissa: Then you really do love her?
Trent: Yes! Why doesn't anyone believe that?
Melissa: Well, you had some outrageous misbehaviors during this week.
Trent: *waves her off* When you have a week from hell, then you can chide me, because I had just come off a MONTH from hell and then followed Carrie through her week of the most ridiculous hell imaginable.
Melissa: Well, you did fire her twice this week.
Trent: No, I didn't! And you if write that, I'll sue you for libel. I merely asked her to leave my office.
Melissa: *thumbs through kindle* Here we are:
Excerpt from Worst Week Ever
 “I said get out!”
“But I have work—”
“No, you don’t. Just leave.”
Had he just fired her? Blinking, trying to stave off unwanted tears, she slowly edged around the desk, opened the desk drawer and retrieved her purse. “We’ll talk when you aren’t so angry,” she said, refusing to accept she’d lost her job over this.
“When hell freezes over. Now leave!”

Trent: I'll pay you a million dollars not to print that. I didn't mean it. I was deeply hurt. I'd thought she'd betrayed me, but later when she explained the situation I realized she hadn't.
Instead of that one, use this excerpt from Worst Week Ever
Carrie met his gaze, her glassy eyes rimmed in red. “I had no right to override your authority. You’d already made your decision. I’m sorry you saw it as a betrayal. I’d hoped for time to explain…”
“But I didn’t give you the chance.”
She lowered her head and sniffled.
“If you had it over to do again, would you do something differently?”
She pulled her hand from his grip, breathed in and then out as if pain. “I know you want to hear I would, but the boy’s whole life could have been ruined if he missed his class. I’m sorry, even though I know I shouldn’t have overridden your decision, and it breaks my heart you’ve fired me, given the same situation, I would do the same.”
He retrieved her hand. “You know why?”
She sighed and closed her eyes as if in pain. “Because I’m an idiot?”
Trent stroked her cheek. “Never. Because you did the right thing.”
Melissa: That was one of your better moments.
Trent: Growing up I was told a Lancaster never explains himself, never apologizes. But for Carrie, I will do anything. I realize I'm not a likable fellow, but I am far better than I was before Carrie came into my life. And I will continue to get better, if only you will tell me how to make Carrie love me.
Melissa: *sighs* She already does love you, Trent. But that doesn't mean you should stop trying to improve yourself. If you stay where you are, or God forbid regress, she may just come to reason and give up on you. But continue your progress and by the next book we readers may actually think you are worthy of her.
Trent: *smiles* Thank you, I will follow your advice. *and he leaves*

Worst Week Ever
by Liza O'Connor
New Adult, Humor, Contemporary
BLURB
What do you get when you put a hardworking, can-do middle-class young woman together with a egoistical, outrageous, billionaire boss, then throw in the worst week of disasters imaginable?
Book 1 of the 3 book series A Long Road to Love.

Worst Week Ever.

Trent Lancaster spends one month without his Executive Assistant, or as his drivers refers to Carrie: 'Trent's brain, left hand, and right hand'. He's had a miserable month without her at his side and to ensure it never happens again, he intends to marry his brilliant beauty. Only given all the times he's threatened to fire her, he's not sure she even likes him. However, the future of his company and his happiness depend upon him succeeding, so Trent begins a slow one week seduction that happens to coincide with Carrie's Worst Week Ever when everything that can go wrong does so in hilarious form.
(Hilarious to the reader--Carrie is not having much fun this week.)

EXCERPT
The door burst open and Trent strode in, followed by a man dressed in a black suit, carrying a tray of food. “Good, you’re finally awake. Saves me from having to throw cold water on you.”
Trent sat on her bed as he pointed to the desk. “Put her breakfast there.”
“On the one of a kind, heirloom desk, which has been in your family since 1845?” his butler asked.
“Yes.”
“No!” Carrie yelled over him. “Let’s put it on the bed stand.” She pushed the Tiffany lamp further back to make room.
“Thank you, miss,” the butler said as he placed the silver tray on the stand and then stepped back. “Will there be anything else?”
“No,” her grumpy boss snapped. The moment the butler stepped into the hall, Trent slammed the door closed and glared at Carrie. “Do not countermand my orders to the staff. They’re impossible enough already.”
She chuckled. “I’m sure they say the same about you.” The tantalizing aroma of her food caught her attention. Unable to resist, she peeked beneath the silver lid.
Trent sat a foot away from her on the bed and sniffed at her plate. “I told the cook she’d be fired if you didn’t eat it.”
“If you actually said that, you should go downstairs and apologize. You appear to have a wonderful cook and should value her.”
He shrugged. “She’s okay. Not as good as the last one though.”
Unwrapping her fork from a swaddling of fine linen, Carrie dug into the egg-white omelet. Her eyes rolled in ecstasy. “God, this is fabulous!”
“Really?” He moved closer and stole her fork so he could try some.
She expected him to smile at first taste. Instead, he became annoyed. “Come on! Your taste buds can’t be that jaded.”
His eyes narrowed. “It’s very good. Far better than the crap she feeds me.”
Carrie shook her head and swiped the fork. If the cook prepared Trent mediocre meals, she understood why. During her first six months at Lancaster Chairs, Trent had threatened her with unemployment on a daily basis and she’d hated it. She nearly grew to hate him, would have, except his remarks always lacked sincerity, as if he’d learned them rote.
Once she’d consumed a quarter of the omelet, she offered him the fork. He smiled and shook his head. “You finish it. The cook will serve me my gruel later. Probably spit in it for good measure.”

REVIEW:

I'm going to admit I' really had no idea what to expect when I started this book. It certainly wasn't the laugh riot i got. I don't remember any book I have read in recent times that has made me laugh so hard.

Trent is your typical out of touch spoiled company boss who has no idea how the real world works. Carrie his long suffering assistant. The interactions between them are a joy to read though like Carrie i quite often wanted to slap Trent upside the head for being such a dick.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book though i must admit a couple of times i was like stop torturing poor Carrie already she's been through enough.

Overall i give this book a 4 out of 5 Thoroughly enjoyable and i'm looking forward to the next in the series.

  1. Melissa, Thanks for closing out my Craziest Blog Tour Ever and the great review. Yes, I tortured Carrie, but I wanted to find her breaking point--she proved incredibly resilient. That will be imperative in book 3. (I say no more.
