Review: One True Knight by Dana D'Angelo

When the beautiful yet feisty Rowena de Belleville discovers her father's plan to remarry, she fears the worst and flees her home -- only to be thrust into the arms of a stranger.

Desperate to hide her identity from her pursuers, she embraces the dark stranger. But her reckless act backfires as it awakens a passion buried deep within her soul, while igniting the fuse of her mysterious benefactor.

Unable to escape destiny, their paths cross yet again. This time she learns the handsome man is Jonathan d'Abelard - the Iron Hawk, a legendary knight feared by all save one faceless killer bent on making his life a living hell...

Will her chance encounter draw them together, or ensnare her in a dangerous game of seduction, feverish desire and vengeance?

Review:
I want to preface this review by saying that Historical Romances are not normally at the top of my reading list. It's not that I don't like them, I just have other preferences I prefer to read. That being said I am glad that I got a chance to read this one.

I am going to admit this story started out a little slow. I really had to push myself to keep reading through the first few chapters. It was about chapter 5 I think that story seemed to suddenly pick-up and I was hooked. I love the interactions between Rowena and Jonathon, and the intrigue surrounding the Grey Knight just kept me reading. A couple of times I thought the romance was playing second fiddle to the intrigue but it wasn’t completely over powered by it. The sexual interactions between Rowena and Jonathon were scorching but in a totally appropriate middle ages manner. My favourite thing of all in this book is the jousting tournament.

I love a book that keeps you guessing and this one certainly did. Though I did figure out who the Grey Knight was, never did I expect what he reveals at the end.

The one downfall for me was - as I find with most self-pubbed pieces - it feels like it could use a good proof read. The thing is, though it was a little disruptive to the story flow, it didn’t really detract from the reading experience.

Overall I would give this a 4 out of 5 and I totally think with a little polishing it could be a five star book.
